Capturing the passing of time at speeds other than real life is one of the fun and useful things in video and film. For a recent project, I needed to have the sun set over a cityscape and all the lights of the city come on in the space of 30 or so seconds. Here are the results, from 2 different night shoots, presented in unique ways:
First the skyline panorama
Now the slow pan across the skyline as time passes
Both sequences were created in high definition from images shot with a Canon still camera. The technique used here is one of several ways that we can capture events over time and speed them up. Unique about it is the ability to include camera movement (pans, tilts or zooms) in the time lapse sequence.
